Mischief in the mud

Today we visited Woodhorn Colliery, a ten-minute drive north of home. In theory this was a great idea: lots of grass, open space and an obvious path that ran around the large lake. In practice, it was an awful idea!

The mud and the rutted puddles were ungodly – and only one of us had wellies! Jasper, though, ploughed on quite happily, blissfully unaware of the bath awaiting his return.

We made it a quarter of the way round before conceding defeat to the lawless land beneath our feet (it was also quite far enough for our energetic little friend). He walked mostly off-lead and was surprisingly well-behaved.

We have discovered that contrary to our latent fears of him bolting for the horizon, he instead criss-crosses our paths and stops between our legs. It would actually be nice to see him take such interest in the trees and objects that he required calling from further ahead! But this, in the grand scheme of things, is definitely not the end of the world, and we think it will simply come with confidence and experience.
